Centre 70 closed for the season

Here is information on adjustments KAMHA will make.

Please see below the news release from the City of Kingston regarding Centre 70. This will be a significant factor with practices and scheduling of playoff games for the next few weeks. Please be patient as KAMHA gets teams on the ice during their regular scheduled times, and expect disruptions in the process.

News release from the City of Kingston:

“We are reaching out to inform you of an incident that occurred at Centre 70 Arena on Monday, Jan. 26. A pipe burst inside the building, causing extensive damage that will result in the closure of the facility for the remainder of the ice season and until further notice.

The pipe burst caused water damage to several areas of the facility including the ice plant and

refrigeration equipment, which will require major repairs and/or replacement of key components. City staff, along with external specialists, are currently undertaking a detailed assessment of the damage. At this stage, it is clear that repairs to the building and ice-making systems may take several months to complete, during which time the facility will be closed to the public.

Staff are exploring options to mitigate impacts where possible, including reallocating user groups and tournaments to other facilities based on the City’s ice allocation policy. We have also reached out to neighbouring municipalities and CFB Kingston to identify potential ice time. We will be looking to move public and family skate time and drop in programming to other city arenas where possible. We would like to thank City staff for their prompt response, including Recreation staff, Facility Maintenance & Construction Service and Kingston Fire & Rescue, who acted quickly to ensure public safety and protect this community asset.

We recognize the significant impact this closure has on user groups, leagues, tournaments and the broader community, and staff are actively communicating with affected stakeholders. We thank you for your patience as this situation unfolds. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”
