U9 (8 years old as at Dec 31; Grade 3)
Our U8 program runs from the middle of September through March and includes 2 ice times per weekend on Saturday and Sunday mornings. U8 will continue to focus on fun and development and will transition to full ice hockey after January 15, 2020.
The Novice program continues to build on the fundamental skills developed in the U7-U8 programs and also serves as an introduction to hockey program for children entering grade 3 who have skated but have minimal experience with hockey (no skating or hockey experience is required for novice).
As per OMHA and Hockey Canada effective 2019-20 - Game play for the U9 will be half-Ice during the first half of the season and transition to Full-Ice (January 15 2020) during the second half of the season.
In years past, all associations were able to offer a Select program at the U9 level. As of the 2019-2020 season, per OMHA, Select will no longer be able to be offered across Ontario because of the half ice mandate. KAMHA will be replacing our Select program in U9 with the Future Canadians Program (For 2020/21, due to Covid 19, we will only be able to offer this program if the City of Kingston provides sufficient ice - so please stay-tuned). This will be a developmental program that will be in line with OMHA and Hockey Canada programming and initiative. We are in the process of finalizing details to support player development at the U9 level; therefore information will be released closer to the start of the season.
