Open Borders Are Here

In December 2024, the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) announced that effective for the 2025/26 season there will be enhanced player movement with open borders across Ontario. This means that any player U8 and above is free to play wherever they want within the OHF membership, at all levels. This is one of the biggest changes in minor hockey in recent memory and KAMHA is dignity trying to navigating the new era of open borders and is committed to providing a high quality program for all players choosing to join KAMHA. We are aiming to build on our past successes and continue to elevate hockey excellence in Kingston and the surrounding areas.

OHF Player Movement Overview

Evaluations begin on April 26th (U8, U9, U10, U11, U12, and U13) and April 28th  (U14, U15, U16, & U18). The Evaluation schedule for each team can be seen by Clicking Here. Please keep checking the schedule as changes will occur to accommodate the number of players that are attending Evaluations.

The Cost to attend Evaluations is $175. Registration for KAMHA Evaluations allows players to until they are selected or released at that particular level. (ex. If a player skates at KAMHA AA Rep Evaluation and is unsuccessful, they are able to skate at the KAMHA A Rep Evaluation without having to register again or pay additional costs for those skates.)

There will be no refunds if you decide not to attend or complete the Evaluations with KAMHA

Registration:

  • Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) mandated that Evaluations (tryouts) registration now be completed through your Hockey Canada account (HCR). This information was only recently confirmed by OHF.
  • All players interested in attending KAMHA's Evaluations MUST pre-register prior to stepping onto the ice in order to participate and be considered for a team. (registering the day of Evaluations is considered "pre-registered")
  • Registration to KAMHA Evaluations guaranteed  a player a total of two (2) Evaluation skates. This may be a combination of Evaluations at either the AA or A level and does not mean a player receives two (2) Evaluations skates per level.
  • Registration for KAMHA Evaluations allows players to attend until they are selected or released at that particular level. (ex. If a player skates at KAMHA AA Rep Evaluation and is unsuccessful, they are able to skate at the KAMHA A Rep Evaluation without having to register again or pay additional costs for those skates.)
  • Under no circumstances will players be allowed to attend Evaluations and be on the ice if they have not registered and paid for Evaluations online through HCR.
  • Please ensure that you are able to log into your HCR account prior to attending Evaluations and that your profile is up to date. If you are not pre-registered through HCR you will not be allowed to attend KAMHA Evaluations
  • With open borders, all players in the surrounding area are welcome to attend Evaluations for a KAMHA Rep team.
  • There will be no refunds if players decide not to attend Evaluations or decide to not complete Evaluations. Refunds will only be issued for medical reasons and must complete our refund form by clicking here
  • OMHA has indicated that registration for Evaluations cannot open prior to April 1st, unless we are told otherwise
  • The link to register for Evaluations will be live on April 1st, please come back to our website for that information
  • As per OHF, Permission to skate (PTS) or releases are no longer required in order to attend Evaluations outside of KAMHA.
  • If you have any outstanding balances owed to KAMHA from the past season, you will not be allowed to attend Evaluations for KAMHA or any other Association until you have settled all outstanding balances.

Registration for the Evaluations will open on April 1st and we ask that anyone interested in attending KAMHA's Evaluations to pre register prior to attending. Once registration is open Click Here to Register

 Evaluations:

  • Evaluations dates and times are now posted, but are subject to change. So please ensure you are always looking at our website
  • This year all ages from U9MD to U18 will happen during the Spring. At this point, KAMHA had decided that we will not have a U8MD team, but if that changes we will hold those Evaluations in the Fall.
  • U9MD Evaluations will Start on April 11th
  • U10AA to U13AA Evaluations will start on April 26th
  • U14AA to U18AA Evaluations will start on April 28th
  • U10A to U13A Evaluations will start on May 3rd
  • U14A to U18A Evaluations will start on May 5th
  • U18BB Evaluations will start on May 12th
  • As per OHF we are only allowed to have the same teams for the upcoming season that we had this past season and will not be able to create new teams regardless of the number of players we have attending our Evaluations. The teams we currently have will move up
  • U14 will have two (2) A teams, Red and White and the teams will be simultaneously and players will not be able to choose which team they would play on (Red or White)
  • U15 will have two (2) A teams, Red and White and the teams will be selected simultaneously and players will not be able to choose which team they would play on (Red or White)
  • Players are not guaranteed any number of skates or exhibition games during Evaluations at any level.
  • Players must be registered for Evaluations and attend at minimum one (1) ice time to be considered for any of KAMHA's Rep team.

Offers of Commitment:

  • Different from years past, when coaches offer a spot on a team, the player will receive a link to register from HCR for the season that day and will have 24 hours to register. If they do not register within the 24 hours the Offer of Commitment may be rescinded by the coach.
  • As players are only allowed to register with one (1) team/Association, once they register it will mean that they have accepted their Offer of Commitment and all other offers will be considered null and void.
  • An Offer of Commitment will only be considered accepted once the player has registered through the link provided by HCR. Verbal or paper commitments will not be accepted.
  • The Fee for playing Rep Hockey with KAMHA will be determined and announced prior to Evaluations.

Helpful Advice Before Registration:
1. Make sure your Hockey Canada Profile is up to date. Even though there are no "borders", you still need to have your correct address in your profile, verified with a drivers licence in the "Documents" section of your profile.
2. Make sure all of your fees from the 2024-25 season are paid. You will not be able to register if there are outstanding amounts.
3. There will be two Registration Steps in the process of being selected to a team. The first step is to register for the tryouts on the Hockey Canada Registry (KAMHA Tryout Page.) You can register for multiple teams during the tryout process. The second step, (once a player is offered a position on a KAMHA team), is to register with KAMHA for the 2025-26 season. This is similar to signing an offer of commitment form in previous seasons.

No Permission to skate forms are required for AAA.
