2026-2027 Kingston Canadians Representative Evaluations

 

The Kingston Area Minor Hockey Association (KAMHA) is committed to providing a fair, transparent, and competitive evaluation process for all players interested in participating in the Kingston Canadians Representative (Rep) program.

This page contains important information regarding the 2026-2027 Representative evaluations. Families are strongly encouraged to review all information prior to registering. The information posted on this page can be changed, updated and/or adjusted without notice. 


Volunteer Respect Statement

  • Abuse of coaches, evaluators, trainers, or volunteers will not be tolerated
  • KAMHA may remove spectators, suspend players, or take other disciplinary action


Key Evaluation Dates

Evaluation dates are subject to change based on ice availability and governing body regulations.

U10 A – U13 A May 2nd
U14 A - U18 A/BB May 4th

Registration Information

All players must register through the Spordle Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) prior to participating in any evaluation sessions.

Important:

  • Players cannot participate without completed registration.
  • Registration does not guarantee placement on any team.
  • Players must be members in good standing with KAMHA and Hockey Canada.
  • Outstanding fees must be cleared prior to participation.
  • Registration links will be posted on the KAMHA website. 

****Please note that any underage players trying out for the team are allowed to at the AA level but must be evaluated in the top 3 skaters of the age group they are trying out for in order to make the team. We will only accept 1 skater if they are evaluated in the top 3 skaters and 1 goalie if the are evaluated as the top goalie for the age group they are trying out for. This only applies at the AA level. If an underage player fails to make the AA team they must go back to their age group****


Evaluation Fees

Evaluation fees $175.00

  • The AA/A/BB/B/MD Rep Evaluation registration and fee allows players to attend Kingston Canadians Rep Evaluations until they are selected or released at a particular level.
    (ex. If a player skates at a AA Rep Evaluation and is unsuccessful, they are able to skate at the A Rep Evaluation without having to register again or pay additional costs for those evaluations. Players will be automatically added to the tryout list for the next level).

  • Once a player is released by the coach at a particular level, players may not return to that level for additional evaluations.

Fees cover:

  • Ice costs
  • Independent evaluators
  • Administrative costs 

Evaluation fees are non-refundable.


Evaluation Process

KAMHA uses a structured evaluation process designed to ensure fairness and consistency.

Evaluations may include:

  • Individual skill sessions
  • Small area games
  • Controlled scrimmages
  • Full ice game play
  • Position specific evaluations

Independent evaluators may be used throughout the process to support objective player assessment.

Players are evaluated on:

  • Skating ability
  • Puck skills
  • Hockey IQ
  • Compete level
  • Positional play
  • Work ethic and attitude
  • Team play and coachability

What To Expect At Evaluations

To help players succeed:

Players should:

  • Arrive 45 minutes early
  • Be dressed on time
  • Bring a water bottle
  • Listen to instructions
  • Compete hard every shift
  • Demonstrate positive body language
  • Support teammates

Parents should:

  • Allow players to focus on their performance
  • Avoid coaching from the stands
  • Respect the evaluation process
  • Encourage effort, not results

Decisions made by the evaluation team and Head Coach are final.


Release Process

KAMHA follows a structured release process

Release procedures:

  • Players may be released at any point
  • Releases will be posted electronically and not communicated directly
  • Released players may continue in the next available level where applicable

Due to the number of participants, individual meetings are not guaranteed.


Offers of Commitment

Players selected to a Representative team will receive an Offer of Commitment from the Head Coach in accordance with OHF/OMHA regulations.

Important:

  • Offers can be made on the first day of Evaluations
  • Offers must be accepted within the required timelines.
  • Failure to respond within timelines may result in the offer being withdrawn.
  • Players accepting an offer are committing to the Kingston Canadians program for the season.

Further registration instructions will be provided following acceptance.


Player & Parent Expectations

KAMHA expects all participants and families to demonstrate respect and sportsmanship throughout evaluations.

All participants must follow:

  • Hockey Canada Fair Play Code
  • KAMHA Code of Conduct
  • Respect in Sport principles

Expectations include:

  • Respect for coaches and evaluators
  • Positive support of all players
  • No approaching evaluators or coaches during evaluations
  • Following arena and dressing room policies

Unsportsmanlike conduct from players or spectators may result in removal from the evaluation process.


Attendance Expectations

Players are expected to attend all scheduled sessions.

If a session must be missed due to:

  • Illness
  • Injury
  • School commitments
  • Family emergency

The Coach or VP of Rep must be notified in advance where possible.

Unreported absences may impact evaluation decisions.  


Communication During Evaluations

Evaluation information will be communicated through:

  • KAMHA Website
  • Email communication

Families are responsible for ensuring their contact information in HCR is accurate.


Questions Regarding Evaluations

Player Feedback Requests

Questions regarding player evaluations should be directed to the Head Coach after the process is complete.

KAMHA will not:

  • Re-evaluate players
  • Overturn decisions
  • Participate in player comparison discussions

General Evaluation Questions

General questions may be directed to:

 

Evaluation Appeal Policy

KAMHA does not offer a formal appeal process for player selection decisions.

Evaluation decisions are based on multiple inputs and represent final hockey decisions.

Appeals will not be considered except in cases involving:

  • Administrative error
  • Eligibility error
  • Policy violation

Hockey decisions are not subject to appeal.


Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does registering guarantee my player a Rep spot?

No. Registration only allows participation in evaluations.

How many skates will my player get?

This varies by division but every effort is made to provide fair opportunity.

Can my player attend another association?

Yes. Players must follow OHF/OMHA regulations regarding attending other associations Evaluations.

Can coaches promise spots early?

No. This violates OHF rules.

When will teams be finalized?

This depends on division timelines but typically within the evaluation window.

Can decisions be appealed?

No (except administrative error).

Can I speak to evaluators?

No. Evaluators will not discuss players during the process.

Will my player receive feedback?

Feedback requests may be directed to the Head Coach after teams are finalized.

Participation in evaluations does not guarantee placement on a Representative team.
