Novice (Kingston Area Minor Hockey Association)

PrintNovice

Novice Program (2011 birth year; Grade 3)

Our Novice program runs from the middle of September through March and includes 2 ice times per weekend on Saturday and Sunday mornings.  Novice will continue to focus on fun and development and will transition to full ice hockey after January 15, 2020.

The Novice program continues to build on the fundamental skills developed in the IP and Minor Novice (formerly Tyke) programs and also serves as an introduction to hockey program for children entering grade 3 who have skated but have minimal experience with hockey (no skating or hockey experience is required for novice).

As per OMHA and Hockey Canada effective 2019-20 - Game play for the Novice age-group (8 year-olds) will be half-Ice during the first half of the season and transition to Full-Ice (January 15 2020) during the second half of the season.

Roster Select Program:

In years past, all associations were able to offer a Roster Select program at the Novice level. As of the 2019-2020 season, per OMHA, Roster Select will no longer be able to be offered across Ontario because of the half ice mandate. KAMHA will be replacing our Roster Select program in Novice with the Future Canadians Program. This will be a developmental program that will be in line with OMHA and Hockey Canada programing and initiative. We are in the process of finalizing details to support player development at the Novice age level; therefore information will be released closer to the start of the season.
